Activities
There are lots of attractions to visit during your holiday. Here are some of the more popular ones. Click on the pictures to learn more.

La Mata Beach
The village of La Mata is a developing tourist centre and one of the more popular Spanish villages on the Mediterranean coast. However, you'll find it's not nearly as commercialised as the Costa Blanca resorts to the North of Alicante. It still retains that special "Spanish" feel and is in a relaxed environment.
You'll also see, that La Mata has learned a few lessons from other tourist destinations, because in La Mata, you'll find no high-rise skyscrapers or package holiday hotels and still retains a Spanish way of life.
The concentration of salt and the temperature, combine to endow this area with a particularly healthy micro-climate, recommended by doctors for its beneficial properties. Bathing in the salt lagoons is also becoming popular for many medicinal reasons. The climate in La Mata makes it an ideal location for year round holiday activities.

Las Salinas de Torrevieja
The unusual pink color of the lake is caused by pigments of the Halobacterium bacteria and a micro-algae called Dunaliella Salina, both of which somehow manage to live and thrive in very salty environments.
So does shrimp. And that's why up to 2000 flamingos can be seen here during the breeding season. Their feathers often turn to a fascinating shade of pink from feasting on algae-filled shrimps.
The Laguna Salada produces as much as 350 grams of salt per liter of water, a very high concentration not far from that of the Dead Sea. The Torrevieja lakes provide as many as 700,000 tons of salt per year which is exported abroad. The high concentration of minerals and iodine in the area have created one of the most unique microclimates in the world, creating air that is ripe with benefits to the respiratory system. Even the muds deposited on the bottom of the lagoon are a perfect remedy for skin and joint diseases.
The best time to visit this enchanting town is during the late summer, when the colors of its waters reach a maximum intensity of pink, until reaching a sparkling fuchsia. From mid-August to the end of September the landscape is completed in its maximum splendor with the arrival of over 2,000 flamingos that come to spend their breeding season here.

The Garden of Nations Park with an area of 35,000 square meters, it is one of the largest green areas that we can see in Torrevieja, but it has much more to offer us.

The Parque de las Naciones has a play area, separated from the animals, which in turn acts as a children's playground, where you can watch the little ones enjoy themselves while enjoying the tranquility and the sound of the birds.
Inside the park, we also have an exhibition hall called "Los Aljibes".

Dique de Levante
The Dique de Levante has formed part of the history of Torrevieja for many years. It was built before the Civil War with the main purpose of protecting the fishing and salt boats moored at the port from harsh weather conditions, particularly from the strong Levante winds.
On climbing the stairs at the start of the route, the visitor is blessed with a stunning panorama “between seas”. In one direction, the Mediterranean Sea glitters in the sun, while if you look the other way, the city of Torrevieja sprawls out in all directions.
Slightly further along the breakwater, the pedestrian is greeted by a statue of a female figure looking out to see. She has been placed there as homage to all the fishermen’s wives that made the town their home and who still do.

La Bella Lola
La Bella Lola represents the seafaring origins of Torrevieja.
The sculptures represent Lola's story. A young woman from Torrevieja deeply in love with Antonio, her sailor and husband, who went out to fish at sea every day.
One day her ship did not return to port and, according to the local story, that on May 12, 1919, Lola left the port with only a white cotton nightgown and her black hair gathered in a bow. There he learned of the tragic end. Neither the ship 'La Gaviota' nor any of its ten crew members would return to port. The sea had engulfed the fishing boat with its wild waters. That day they ended the search for survivors.
After the news, Lola was still there, day and night, looking at the serene sea and waiting for the return of her beloved Antonio.

This tower is located in a park with a beautiful view. It is well kept so one cannot see evidence of much wear or weathering. This park contains a café in which one can enjoy the scenery under shade. One cannot enter the tower, presumably for safety reasons.
